United Nations Security Council Resolution 1440 (2002)

Resolution 1440 calls Member States to adhere to the UN Charter while implementing its counterterrorism strategies. The UN Charter, in this regard, mandates the Security Council to maintain international peace and security (Article 24.1) while respecting ‘human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion’ (Article 55 c).

 

EXCERPT:

OP 5: Expresses its reinforced determination to combat all forms of terrorism, in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations.
